I am sharing my pair of raggedy ann and andy matching cookie jars. I bought these together at a yard sale in my local area years ago. I was pleased that they had the matching set. I got them for a really good price. They are in nice condition and feature the characters eating cookies. They were made in Japan by the company Napcoware and the value varies for the set, but the pair is only worth about $38.
History of the Characters
Raggedy Ann and Andy are fictional characters created by American writer Johnny Gruelle in the early 20th century. The characters first appeared in a series of children’s books and then in dolls, merchandise, and animation. Raggedy Ann is a rag doll with red yarn for hair and a triangle nose. She has a heart-shaped button on her chest and the words “I Love You” printed on her face. Andy is Raggedy Ann’s brother, he is identical in appearance except he is male, and usually dressed in overalls, have a different heart-shaped button on his chest. Both characters have adventures and tell moral stories, often with a focus on kindness and compassion. The books, dolls, and merchandise featuring the characters have remained popular over the years and are considered American cultural icons.
My Daughter adopted a cat who’s name was “Andy” and named after the character so he has a special place in my heart.
